Senator Tony Hwang: Proven Leadership for Strong Schools & Exceptional Student Experience

As your state senator and as a Fairfield parent, I know firsthand that nothing matters more to families than strong schools and an exceptional student experience. Both of our children went through Fairfield Public Schools from elementary through high school. Today, they are caring, successful adults, a testament to great teachers, dedicated staff, and a community that believes in its kids. Every family in Fairfield deserves that same confidence.

I am running for First Selectperson because every child’s educational success has been the foundation of my public service career. My guiding principle is simple: every child deserves a safe, supported, world-class education, without political interference. Our job as leaders is to put students first, support educators, and give families safety, stability, and trust in their schools.

That starts with responsible planning and investment. I will ensure transparent, predictable school construction and facilities planning so parents aren’t blindsided by last-minute proposals or shifting timelines. Our buildings must be modern, safe, and well-maintained, with a long-term capital plan the community can see and understand.

I will continue advocating for equitable state funding so more of the tax dollars Fairfield sends to Hartford come back to our classrooms. In the legislature, I’ve helped pass laws expanding childcare subsidies and eligibility and strengthening mental health services for children, practical support that helps families and students right now.

Student well-being is also about safety and daily experience. I will make walkability, efficient bus transportation, and traffic safety around schools a priority, tackling drop-off congestion, dangerous crossings, and speeding so students, parents, and buses can get to school safely.

And I have, and will continue to, defend Fairfield from state-imposed, quota-driven redistricting schemes that split neighborhoods, destabilize school communities, and treat children as numbers on a spreadsheet. I’ve already pushed for – and will support – legislation to pause rigid racial-imbalance state mandates so districts can thoughtfully review and update their plans, not be forced into rushed, disruptive moves.

Finally, I will keep building federal, state, and local partnerships with educators, parents, and school leaders, not be forced to accept top-down, one-size-fits-all mandates from Hartford. Our students only get one chance at their education. As First Selectperson, I will bring my proven legislative record, my experience, and my perspective as a Fairfield parent and legislative leader to support and empower our students and their families every single day. Fairfield’s children deserve nothing less.

I want to hear directly from you, your concerns, your priorities, your hopes for Fairfield’s future. Please call me at 203-807-8098 or email me at Tony@TonyHwang.org. I respectfully ask for your trust and your vote for First Selectperson on February 3, 2026. Together, we can keep Fairfield’s strong educational system successful and our community thriving for generations to come.
