I would like to believe that by now, Senator Tony Hwang’s dedication to his constituents is well-known, but it’s worth reminding ourselves of the small acts of kindness our State Senator and neighbor quietly does for people when they need it most.
Five years ago, when my wife was hospitalized, Tony was one of her very first visitors. When my nephew’s wife was battling cancer, Tony was there to offer support. When my neighbor was told by the town that she had to deal with a compromised tree—a tree she had been told for decades by the tree warden not to touch—Senator Hwang stepped in and helped navigate the bureaucratic maze.
Just this year, after a close friend lost his battle with cancer that was most likely contracted while serving as an FBI special agent in lower Manhattan after September 11, Tony privately presented his wife with a Letter of Recognition/Memoriam from the Connecticut General Assembly, honoring her husband’s public service to protecting our country and its citizens.
These small acts of kindness are not unique to Tony, they are routine.
Many of his constituents likely know someone who has been touched by his compassion in some way. Some might dismiss these gestures as mere “little things,” but in truth, they are far from insignificant. When it comes to showing people that you genuinely care, these little things are everything.
