Senator Tony Hwang (R-28) Leads Bipartisan Effort for Coleytown Middle School Construction Funding in Education Committee
HARTFORD – Today’s Education Committee Public Hearing Agenda included House Bill 6617 – An Act Concerning Authorization of State Grant Commitments for School Building Projects and Revisions To The School Building Projects Statutes.
Sen. Tony Hwang (R-28) appeared before the committee to share his support of the bill that included many school construction projects throughout Connecticut. Sen Hwang echoed the united bipartisan voice of all Westport state delegation members to ask for state funds to help offset costs for Coleytown Middle School in Westport. This state money will reimburse $8,820,830 to Westport for the soon to be completed renovation and redesign.
Sen. Hwang spoke enthusiastically, “Every school in this bill deserves support, I am proud as the state senator of Westport to reinforce the justification of funding for Coleytown Middle School. This school serves students in grades 6 through 8 and the total renovation and redesign was necessary due to discovery of mold and other health risk concerns that would have negatively affected students, teachers and staff.
“The physical building changes that this legislation will reimburse are only the beginning of an upswing of a totally new and positive educational experience for these students and staff. This investment in school infrastructure will improve the educational experience for Westport students for years to come, I am proud to be on the front line of the effort to bring these plans for Coleytown Middle School in Westport closer to reality.”
“The School Construction bill is one of the most important bills both the Education Committee and General Assembly take up every legislative session,” said Sen. Hwang.
