On January 15 of this year, my husband lost his battle with cancer, which he developed from exposure to contaminants in service to our country.
My husband was an FBI Special Agent and he responded to the terrorist attacks on 9/11 and worked at the FBI command post in Manhattan. The side effects from his time near Ground Zero ultimately included the uveal melanoma that took his life.
Shortly after my husband was laid to rest, Senator Tony Hwang came to our home to present my son and I with a Letter of Recognition/Memoriam from the Connecticut General Assembly.
He and I sat together at my kitchen table, and we shared stories about my husband. He kept in touch with me after that and was there for me when I needed guidance in closing out my husband’s affairs with state and federal government bureaucracies. I will never forget his kindness and how proud he made me feel about my husband’s service to our country, to the state of Connecticut, and to the Town of Fairfield.
Senator Tony Hwang is truly a man who understands the meaning of “Service for others”.
