State Senator Tony Hwang Statement on US Supreme Court Decision on LGBTQ Workplace Rights and Protection

State Senator Tony Hwang offers the following statement in support of the U.S. Supreme Court ruling given on Monday June 15, 2020 creating a landmark civil rights law interpretation on protecting gay and transgender workers from workplace discrimination.  Until Monday’s decision, it was legal in more than half of states to fire workers for being gay, bisexual or transgender. This decisive 6-3 majority decision extended workplace protections to millions of people across the United States.

“I applaud the decision made by the United States Supreme Court to provide nationwide protections for the LGBTQ community in their places of work.  In Connecticut, we uphold a supportive and legal protection and expectation for fair treatment of persons of any race, age, orientation, identity, age or disability.  The decision by the United States Supreme Court makes equality and protection for all Americans in the workplace, the law of the land. which in many parts of the country is a major step in support of the LGBTQ movement.”
