State and Local Officials Tour “School of Distinction”: McKinley Elementary School

“A place where diversity is celebrated.”

FAIRFIELD – Sen. Tony Hwang on Apr. 25 joined state lawmakers and state and local education officials for an informative tour of McKinley Elementary School.

“Connecticut’s Department of Education Commissioner Charlene Russell-Tucker graciously made time in her schedule for this special visit to see firsthand a place where diversity is celebrated and where children truly enjoy the learning process,” Sen. Hwang said.  “We demonstrated to Connecticut’s top education official how Fairfield is a special community and that McKinley is a special school for inspired, life-long learning.  The school’s ongoing efforts to achieve educational excellence through a diverse curriculum, passionate teachers and a diverse student population are worth celebrating.”

The tour helped state officials to better understand the diversity and quality of educational experience at McKinley, including the Early Literacy Academy and music classes.

Tour attendees included Rep. Jennifer Leeper, Rep. Sarah Keitt, Rep. Cristin McCarthy Vahey, Superintendent Michael Testani, Principal Teresa Gingrave, and Fairfield Board of Education Chair Jennifer Jacobsen.
