Sen. Tony Hwang Statement on Rising Car Insurance Premiums

Sen. Tony Hwang, Ranking Senator on the Insurance and Real Estate Committee, today issued the following statement regarding news that car insurance rates in Connecticut have jumped by 10.7 percent in Connecticut in 2024, more than double the national average hike.

“Unaffordable. Unsustainable. Unacceptable. Whether it is health insurance, long-term care insurance, homeowners’ insurance, and now car insurance, premiums have skyrocketed. These runaway costs are not only extremely frustrating, they are adding new and painful strains to already stretched household budgets. Connecticut Republicans and I will continue to push for achievable, common-sense measures that lower the cost of insurance for small employers and for working and middle-class families. As Ranking Member of the Insurance & Real Estate Committee and the Transportation Committee, I have been trying to address this issue. Far more needs to be done.”
