FAIRFIELD – Today, Senator Tony Hwang promoted awareness of 2024 Connecticut Sales Tax Free Week, which will be held from Sunday, August 18th to Saturday, August 24th. During this time, purchases of certain items of clothing or footwear costing less than $100 per item are exempt from sales tax. These exemptions will be placed on items purchased from retailers located in Connecticut as well as from online retailers.
“I urge residents and families to take advantage of this opportunity to save and support our local businesses. Not only does this ease the financial burden on residents of taxation, but it also can strengthen our local economies,” Senator Hwang remarked.
Residents should note that while most clothing and footwear costing less than $100 per item will be exempt from state sales tax during this time, there are few exceptions
- Any special clothing or footwear primarily designed for athletic activity or protective use that is not normally worn except when used for the athletic activity or protective use for which it was designed; and
- Jewelry, handbags, luggage, umbrellas, wallets, watches, and similar items carried on or about the human body but not worn on the body in the manner characteristic of clothing.
