Sen. Tony Hwang, ranking member of the Insurance and Real Estate Committee, Sen. Rob Sampson, the former ranking member of the committee, and Sen. Republican Leader Stephen Harding issued the following statement regarding a news report that highlights how taxpayer-funded lobbying organizations engaged in misinformation to derail legislation which would have allowed working and middle-class employees of small companies to get more affordable insurance by pooling their resources together.
“The story is highly revealing and disappointing. Clearly, partisanship and political self-interest undermined this common sense legislation. The losers in this scenario? The losers are the overburdened families across our state who are dealing with unaffordable health insurance costs. The losers are Connecticut residents who need individual and small group policies. Health insurance premiums are the size of mortgage payments. Health insurance rates could likely rise by double digits again next year. Republicans will continue working to pass Association Health Plans legislation on behalf of struggling Connecticut families.”
