DOT UPDATE: Jan 4 Closure of Beachside Avenue Bridge over I-95 in Westport

The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing that the scheduled closure of the Beachside Avenue Bridge over I-95 in Westport will occur on January 4, 2021. The closure is necessary to facilitate ongoing construction activities associated with the full replacement of the entire bridge structure. The closure will remain in place until approximately September 14, 2021. Signage will be in place to guide motorists around the closure with a short detour utilizing local roads.

About the Project

The project consists of the replacement of the existing structure with a two-span continuous steel girder superstructure with a precast concrete deck supported on Geosynthetic Reinforced Soil Integrated Bridge (GRS-IBS) abutments and wingwalls and a concrete pier at the I-95 median. The existing bridge geometry will be modified to realign the intersection of Beachside Avenue and Green Farms Road into a T- intersection. This modified geometry will provide a 12-foot travel lane and a 2-foot shoulder in each direction and a 5-foot sidewalk on the north side of the bridge. The structure will be 38.5 feet wide.

DOT Project No. 0158-0206 was awarded to Rotha Contracting Co., Inc. of Avon, CT on December 9, 2019, for $7,334,803.90 with an official start date of January 23, 2020. The project is expected to be complete in December 2021.
