For Immediate Release:
In advance of Thursday H2O rate hike hearing in Westport,
Sen. Hwang raises questions
In advance of the CT Public Utilities Regulatory Authority’s Thursday, Sep. 8 hearing at 5:30 pm at Westport Town Hall regarding Aquarion Water Company’s attempt to amend its rate schedule, Sen. Tony Hwang has submitted the following testimony:
“I thank the Public Utilities Regulatory Authority for calling this hearing to further examine the August rate changes made by Aquarion Water Company.
“A rate increase on water will only add to Connecticut families’ burdens. I encourage PURA to require Aquarion to provide insight as to the justification of the rate increase request.
“After PURA issues its final decision, I look forward to hearing from the authority on any suggestions they may have for statutory changes needed in future rate cases.
“Here is my main question for Aquarion: What actions have they taken to make water more affordable for customers?
“In addition, what was the justification for the massive water diversion from Fairfield and Easton to lower Fairfield County, and how did that diversion impact the drought conditions in Fairfield and Easton?
“Again, thank you for holding this hearing, and I look forward to getting some needed clarification from Aquarion.”
The public can either attend the Thursday hearing in person or email comments to PURA.ExecutiveSecretary@ct.gov with “Docket No. 22-07-01 Comments” in the subject line.
