State Senator Tony Hwang (R-28) released the following statement in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.
“Here we are in 2021 honoring the memory of a visionary civil rights and social justice leader Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr and we have been able to experience achievements made by persons of color, most notably President Barack Obama and soon-to-be Vice President Kamala Harris.
“It is beyond unfortunate that the progress and successes we are seeing for minority communities are overshadowed by the painful and divisive hatred that still exists and recently showed its ugly face in our country. The beginning of this week marks a new dawn for our country as we will experience a constitutional change in leadership and a refocusing on the strides we need to continue making to be an equal and opportunistic country for all. We should truly observe this day and remember the man who called on all Americans to work harder on understanding and communicating with each other.”
