Senator Tony Hwang (R-28) was appointed by Senate Republican Leadership to be Ranking Committee Leader on the Planning and Development (P&D) Committee in the upcoming 2021-2022 legislative sessions.
The P&D Committee has cognizance of all matters relating to local governments, housing, urban renewal, fire, sewer and metropolitan districts, home rule and planning and zoning; regional planning and development activities and the State Plan of Conservation and Development, and economic development programs impacting local governments.
Senator Hwang was honored to be chosen by Senate leadership, “I look forward to serving in a leadership role so I can provide a much-needed check and balance when it comes to issues of municipal support and possible regionalization. In matters of land use and zoning legislation, collaboration, transparency and respect are essential. As the ranking leader, I will make sure that local leader input is sought out and thoughtfully considered when dealing with matters including housing, sewer, planning and zoning; regional planning and economic development programs. The P&D Committee will also be called upon should the public utilities be broken up and towns left to acquire and provide electricity to residents.”
Hwang has been a leader on local land use and zoning issues, promoting awareness and involvement. He held an informational forum with a panel of experts on December 1.
Hwang encourages insight and input from all shareholders and welcomes an engaged dialogue toward sustainable and collaborative solutions.
