Senator Hwang Statement on AT&T Data Breach

Sen. Tony Hwang, an appointee to Connecticut’s Cybersecurity Task Force, today issued the following statement on AT&T suffering a massive data breach in which nearly all of its customers had information stolen.

“I urge AT&T and Connecticut’s cybersecurity officials to diligently keep at-risk customers fully informed and support action steps that need to aggressively be taken to protect their private and financial data.

Questions need to be asked. Was critical personal information compromised? If so, how was it obtained by hackers? What should state residents do to protect themselves? The State of Connecticut needs to be more proactive in addressing cybercrimes and responding to data breaches. The Cybersecurity Task Force I was appointed to? That panel was never convened by the Democrat majority. They never met to address and work to prevent these data breaches. That’s inexcusable.

I stand ready to work with federal, state, and local cybersecurity experts to prevent any future breaches. Let’s convene this task force, and get to work protecting consumers, businesses, and families from the insidious threats of hackers that have grown more and more active recently.”
