Fairfield Senior Center, 2014 – Tony Hwang had the opportunity and privilege of recognizing the young men, and their families, who will be joining the military or moving onto military service academies.
A member of the board of realtors which hosted the event, and State Representative for many of the honorees, Hwang welcomed those assembled including families, veterans, both US Senators for Connecticut and the Congressional delegation, remarking the turnout “Is an incredible testament to just how important and how valued your service is to us all.”
“We must also always remember that your parents, your loved ones, and your extended family love you dearly, they worry about you and they think about you, and are extremely proud of you. Let us not forget that they are truly what is behind you and helping you to be so successful.”
“This is a great opportunity for us to step back and remember that young and old are all alike in their patriotism and their support and love for our country. And that it is important for us, as we enjoy the holiday and the liberties and freedoms that we have, to pay our respects and know that they have taken a responsibility to protect our interests and it is our duty as citizens and public servants to protect their interests at home. And as I say this, we must remember that every day must be a day where we honor those who serve to protect our rights.”
The 4th of July is a time where we celebrate the birth of our country and the brave men and women who defend it, but it also serves as a reminder that we should be patriotic and appreciative of our service members everyday, not only during holidays.
