Local Governance vs. State Mandated Control

My common sense approach is focused on a relentless commitment to our community and maintaining the balance between local governance against state mandated control. I strongly believe that our best solutions are collaborative and engage the input of all impacted shareholders, rather than a one-size-fits-all state mandate.

SUPPORT LOCAL EDUCATION BOARDS vs REGIONALIZATION:
Support and collaborate with local/community based Boards of Education, parental advocacy and shareholders affecting education. Encourage local BOE to evaluate regional collaboration to increase efficiencies and cost saving.

LAND USE & ZONING STANDARDS – CGS 8.30G:
One-size-fits-all state mandated housing laws such as (8-30g) have not worked to address the critical need for affordable, accessible & diverse housing in CT. We need collaborative solutions from local, state and federal leaders to increase housing availability in our suburbs, rural and urban communities.

MOTOR VEHICLE & PROPERTY TAXES:
Sweeping changes were made to our motor vehicle taxation laws and the impact in our respective communities and taxpayers are yet to be felt. Unfunded state mandated policies are a direct cause of rising local property taxes. Unfunded mandate policies must be re-evaluated for their goals and purposes.
