BRIDGEPORT – Sen. Tony Hwang (holding sign) on Apr. 18 met with participants in the Maggie Daly Arts Cooperative (MDAC) at The Kennedy Center. The program provides an innovative environment where individuals with disabilities can learn, create and benefit by participating in a multi-faceted arts program.
Sen. Hwang noted that the quality, community-based services provided by organizations like The Kennedy Center can help to provide “real solutions to Connecticut’s budget crisis.”
Sen. Hwang added that “these organizations provide essential services to our most vulnerable and at-risk populations. They also stand to provide state government with a substantial fiscal savings. That represents a potential ‘win-win’ for Connecticut residents. I have joined with Democrats and Republicans at the State Capitol to emphasize the usage of these community-based services going forward. It just makes so much sense.”

Our David vs. Goliath fight continues.
In the attached News 8 story, I warn that the expansion of gambling, off tribal land, can go anywhere in the State of Connecticut.

Thank you!
Sen. Tony Hwang on Apr. 11 joined with federal and state officials to break ground for the new Fisher House Foundation housing facility at the VA Connecticut Healthcare System in West Haven.
The facility, conveniently located on the hospital’s campus, will ease the burden for families of veterans receiving care at the VA. It will provide 16 suites of comfortable, no-cost lodging so families can be close to their loved ones while they are receiving treatment.
“The Fisher House is an example of how active community engagement can make a lasting and significant positive impact on people’s lives,” Sen. Hwang said. “This facility is a testament to the importance of strong relationships between elected officials, private businesses, and community advocates.”
At the event, Sen. Hwang had the honor of meeting Congressional Medal of Honor recipient Paul Bucha. Bucha was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor for exhibiting extraordinary heroism and bravery during his service as a U.S. Army Captain in the Vietnam War.
“Our veterans and their families must be our top priority,” Sen. Hwang added. “They are heroes, and they deserve the very best of care. It took many people many years to reach this goal today, and I am honored to be a part of this inspiring success story.”

Make no mistake: if legislation to expand gambling in Connecticut passes, a casino somewhere in Fairfield County could one day be our reality.
A public hearing will be held at 11 a.m. THIS MONDAY, April 17, at the Legislative Office Building on Bill 7319.
Bill 7319 calls for state government officials to issue a request for casino proposals and to select an entity to develop, manage and operate “a possible casino gaming facility in the state.”
Together, let us say “NO” to more casinos in CT!
Here’s how:
1) Send an email TODAY to FINtestimony@cga.ct.gov (email can simply say: No More CT Casinos! No on Bill 7319!)
2) Copy me at Tony.Hwang@cga.ct.gov (include your name and town)
